Systematic approach in gout treatment with selective medications
The gout treatment requires three pronged action so that it remains under control.
Pain Relieving:
Mild to potent analgesics are used to control the pain suffered by a gout patient. The most commonly used safe analgesic is acetaminophen or paracetamol.
Anti-inflammatory action:
Use on non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs collectively termed as (NSAIDS) along with colchicines or steroids are used based on the severity of the disorder.
The commonly used NSAIDS are Indomethacin and Naproxen which are proven in their beneficial effects as anti-inflammatory agents for use in acute stage of gout disease. The dose used of these medications is tapered off when there is resolution of the arthritis accompanied along with gout.
Regulation of metabolism
Use of gout medication is selected focused on the management of the presence of chronic metabolic dysfunction which is causing the hyperuricemia affecting gout progression. In other words the objective is focused on bringing down the increased level of uric acid present in the blood by selection of medicines which are capable of reducing its levels.
