A tsunami is one of the horrible disasters due to its great power and destruction. History has many evidences related to the power and destruction of a tsunami. Tsunami waves are having a power of life damages as well as massive physical distractions. They can destroy concrete buildings, can smash towns and can change a populated town down to the earth. In short, Tsunami is actually energetic and aggressive sea waves, whose aim is to destroy or crash anything which comes in its way. No matter, it’s a human, building, bridge, cars or power lines.

What is a Tsunami and it causes?

I am familiar with term Tsunami and I heard it several times but the real meaning and understanding of the word was confusing to me a few years ago. There are still several of people who are not having enough understanding of Tsunami. A tsunami is actually Seismic or huge sea waves which are caused due to sudden changes or jolt in the seafloor. A tsunami is usually caused by earthquakes which occur under or near the sea. It can also be caused by massive land sliding, rocks fall, ice fall and under water slumps. Generally, Tsunami occurs when anything greatly disturbs or affect the normal flow of the ocean. As a result the sea water moves towards shore in a fast and abnormal way. These waves are very huge and as they move towards shore some other little waves also combine with them and make them more horrible and sized.

Energy of tsunami waves:

Tsunami waves are very much energetic and can affect a wide area. After the generation of Tsunami waves, its power is distributed throughout the sea regardless its depth. These are actually long water waves whose movement directions are the surroundings of the source or main area. The length, speed and period of waves are depending on the severity of an earthquake or the size of Ice, rock or area of landslide. Tsunami waves are very slightly losing their energy during its traveling period; however, usually it is depending on the depth of water. The speed will high in deep water. These waves are very much faster just like an aircraft. A Tsunami wave can travel 800Km/Hour. The power and destruction of a Tsunami lie in its speed.

Historic examples:

There are many historical examples available which can easily make us understand about the power and destruction of a Tsunami. In 1980, a massive destructive Tsunami was occurring along with southern France because of underwater land sliding. In 1992 in Nicaragua, in 1992, 1994 and 1996 in Indonesia, Japan in 1993, Philippines in 1994, 1995 in Mexico and so on. All these Tsunami’s were destructive and life taking. The most recent and deadliest Tsunami was occurred in 2004 in the Indian Ocean.

Like an earthquake, Tsunami is also unpredictable; however one can escape only if your house is far away from the coastal area. With the help of technology, now predictions can be made about the speed and direction of Tsunami waves. However, still it is depending on your site, that’s how much your distance is from the ocean and it only gives you a few hours or a day to make yourself and your family safe.
